In Loving Memory of Robert "Lefty/Pito" Benitez
With profound sadness and unwavering faith, we announce the passing of our beloved Robert "Lefty/Pito" Benitez, who entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at the age of 63, surrounded by the love of his family at North Shore University Hospital.
Robert was born on October 13, 1962, in Puerto Rico, to the late Roberto Benitez-Morales and Lillian Brito-Cruz. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Veronica Benitez; his treasured daughter, Lillian Benitez; his (favorite) loving sister, Sara Beltran; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Robert will always be remembered for his gentle spirit, patient heart, quiet strength, and wonderful sense of humor. His smile, compassion, and ability to make others feel welcome were gifts that brought comfort and joy to so many.
For most of his career, Robert proudly worked as a Greyhound bus driver, a profession he truly enjoyed. Outside of work, he loved traveling with Veronica, especially on cruises, where they created countless cherished memories together. He also had a lifelong passion for trains, cars, and took great pride in his beloved Mercedes-Benz. Whether sharing stories, laughing with family, or simply enjoying life's simple moments, Robert lived with gratitude and love.
Although our hearts are heavy with grief, we find peace in knowing that Robert's love and legacy will continue to live on through those who knew and loved him. We pray that he rests peacefully in God's eternal embrace, free from pain, and surrounded by everlasting light. His memory will remain a blessing and an inspiration to us always.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Robert's life during a viewing on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at New Leaf/Macken Mortuary, 52 Clinton Avenue, Rockville Centre, NY 11570.
The Benitez family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love, support, and condolences during this difficult time. Your kindness has brought great comfort and reminded us of how deeply Robert was loved.
Forever in our hearts. Forever in God's care. May he rest in eternal peace.
